September 13, 2019Improve Your Business Website: 6 Tips For a Northern Ireland Business
June 10, 2020Northern Ireland Copywriter Paul Malone on 5 simple hacks a business in Northern Ireland can use during lockdown to improve their web content.
As a Northern Ireland Copywriter, I carry out all of my work at home, but for other businesses in Northern Ireland, it’s a case of waiting until you get back to the office.
Let’s face it; there’s a genuine prospect of social distancing measures in some form being in force for at least another 12 months.
In other words, until a successful vaccine is found.
As a Northern Ireland Copywriter, I have used the time to critique and improve both of my businesses: Newry Times and Tall Paul Marketing.
Now’s the time to do some work on your business and reassert your goals for the future.
Do this with actionable targets for you and your team.
Start with these 5 simple hacks, and I promise you will be happier, your customers will be more satisfied, and ultimately, your business will prosper.
1. Go through every page of your website and get rid of dated content.
Cut down on content dramatically.
It will look cleaner and less cluttered.
Print out every page of your website.
Get a highlighter and go through every sentence and ask yourself, “Do customers need to read this?”
Be your own worst critic.
Aim to cut the amount of content by 20-50%; it won’t devalue your website and will improve your customer’s experience.
For example, take my Northern Ireland Copywriter website, Tall Paul Marketing.
I could write something like this on the homepage: “Tall Paul Marketing is a Northern Ireland Copywriter, offering businesses of all sizes engaging, sharable content for their website blogs, marketing material, social media and everything in between. Tall Paul Marketing is one of Northern Ireland’s leading and nationally recognised agencies for improving your content to get results, improve your customer’s experience and help you get found on search engines.”
But I wouldn’t write all of that. Why?
It’s too long and feels as if I am cramming way too much information into a paragraph and pleading for some business by screaming “Look at me, look how good I am!”.
Instead, my homepage might say something like this, “Is your website’s blog neglected? No time to write content? Let Northern Ireland’s favourite Copywriter Paul Malone create engaging content for your website.”
This text is much better. It’s short, to the point, and when someone lands on the Tall Paul Marketing website, they know what services I offer and what pain point I help to solve.
You’ll surprise yourself at how little of your website content you need to keep and what you repeat on multiple pages.
2. Check your content for spelling and grammar. If you’re not comfortable with this, consider hiring a Northern Ireland Copywriter.
We’re all humans. We all make mistakes.
You’ve already printed out all the pages of your website; so now that point 1 is complete, start reading all of your content for accuracy, grammar, and typos.
Sometimes it’s hard to spot our own mistakes, so ask a friend or family member to check.
Alternatively, hire a professional Northern Ireland Copywriter to read all of your content and correct any errors.
Better still; ask them to rewrite the content so that it’s fresh, to the point and engaging.
3. Digital savvy businesses are the future.
Marketing is not the art of finding clever ways to dispose of what you make. It is the art of creating genuine customer value.
Philip Kotler
If there’s one revelation from the current pandemic, it’s that everything is now moving at breakneck speed towards remote working and digitally-focused businesses.
Are you ready for that?
Think about new ways you can engage with your customers.
Could you add a WhatsApp button to your website to encourage people to contact you with queries via apps they already use daily?
Could you set up your business with more digitally-focused technology like Zoom and MS Teams to avoid unnecessary and time-consuming meetings?
4. Concentrate on your blog. A website blog is one of the most valuable, yet most neglected parts of your website.
Sometimes I am so busy writing blog content for my client’s websites that I deprioritise writing content for the Tall Paul Marketing blog. We all do it.
Think of your blog as the perfect sneak-peek into the personality of your business.
It’s your chance to showcase what your business does, provide informative and helpful content and start discussions in your industry.
It will also improve your organic search rankings on Google, Yahoo, and Bing with savvy SEO optimised content.
For example, you probably found my website after searching for a ‘Northern Ireland Copywriter.’
That’s because all of my content is SEO optimised.
It appears to people who are searching for a Copywriter in Northern Ireland.
“Take action now.” – Northern Ireland Copywriter, Paul Malone.
Decide today that you’re going to use your spare time during lockdown to create 12 new blog posts.
Schedule them into your Content Management System to publish each month.
You will soon start seeing results from these initial monthly blog posts.
Then, it’s time to up the ante: write a weekly blog post.
But for now, focus on writing 12 of the most engaging blog posts you would love to read if you stumbled across them yourself.

5. Don’t waste time on social media platforms that don’t fit your business.
Just because they’re available and trendy right now, it doesn’t mean you should create an account.
Different social media platforms suit different types of businesses.
Example: Newry Times creates newsworthy, shareable content so the focus is on Facebook (still number one in the world) and Twitter.
To a lesser extent, I use Instagram and YouTube.
I haven’t jumped on the TikTok or Snapchat bandwagons, simply because they don’t fit my business or content.
In addition, with Tall Paul Marketing, I focus on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn as all of my content is mostly text-based and appeals to people who like reading to educate themselves.
Depending on your business, focus on a small handful of platforms but use each appropriately.
However, on the other hand, if you’re a restaurant or coffee shop that might be Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
Why?
Well, that’s because they’re excellent platforms to showcase your mouth-watering food in video and photograph.
If you’re a career coach, you might focus on professional networks such as LinkedIn.
These 5 tips will really help your business adapt to our new normal.
